And, the forwards we did have were getting tired from going back and forth. Therefore, they weren’t fore-checking properly (marking the other team’s defenders). As a result, we weren’t getting turnovers in the other team’s end. This left us trying to score against a triangle all the time, which is tough at the best of times.
Before we knew it, we had lost a bunch of games we never should have lost.
This experience made me recognize the subtle, little things that excellent players do when marking the player with the ring at both ends of the ice that keep great teams on the winning side of the scoreboard.
